The severity and complexity of the recent financial crisis has motivated the need for understanding the relationships between sovereign ratings and bank credit ratings. This is the first study to examine the impact of the “international” spillover of sovereign risk to bank credit risk through both a ratings channel and an asset holdings channel. In the first case, the downgrade of sovereign ratings in GIIPS (Greece, Italy, Ireland, Portugal, and Spain) countries leads to rating downgrades of banks in the peripheral countries. The second channel indicates that larger asset holdings of GIIPS debt increases the credit risk of cross‐border banks, and hence, the probabilities of downgrade.  相似文献

In this article, a generic severity risk framework in which loss given default (LGD) is dependent upon probability of default (PD) in an intuitive manner is developed. By modeling the conditional mean of LGD as a function of PD, which also varies with systemic risk factors, this model allows an arbitrary functional relationship between PD and LGD. Based on this framework, several specifications of stochastic LGD are proposed with detailed calibration methods. By combining these models with an extension of CreditRisk+, a versatile mixed Poisson credit risk model that is capable of handling both risk factor correlation and PD–LGD dependency is developed. An efficient simulation algorithm based on importance sampling is also introduced for risk calculation. Empirical studies suggest that ignoring or incorrectly specifying severity risk can significantly underestimate credit risk and a properly defined severity risk model is critical for credit risk measurement as well as downturn LGD estimation.  相似文献

For a firm financed by a mixture of collateralized (short-term) debt and uncollateralized (long-term) debt, we show that fluctuations in margin requirements, reflecting funding liquidity shocks, lead to increasing the firm’s default risk and credit spreads. The severity with which a firm is hit by increasing margin requirements highly depends on both its financing structure and debt maturity structure. Our results imply that an additional premium should be added when evaluating debt in order to account for rollover risks, especially for short-matured bonds. In terms of policy implications, our results strongly indicate that regulators should intervene fast to curtail margins in crisis periods and maintain a reasonably low margin level in order to effectively prevent creditors’ run on debt.  相似文献

This paper develops a structural model of contingent capital. In contrast to existing approaches we explicitly link the firm’s total payout to its cost of debt, leading to a total payout that is linear in—as opposed to proportional to—asset value. In the special case that asset value evolves as affine geometric Brownian motion we derive closed-form expressions for limiting (i.e. perpetual) bond values. The proposed model is flexible, so that it can be used to gauge the relative merits of different variations of contingent capital, and parsimonious, so that it is relatively easy to implement in practice. An empirical example using data from the Canadian banking sector is provided that illustrates how the model can generate insights into problems that are of interest to both regulators and issuers of contingent capital (e.g. what range of conversion prices would be consistent with regulatory guidelines, and how expensive is contingent debt over this range).  相似文献

Can simplifying customs procedures reduce tariff evasion? We measure tariff evasion as the mis-representation of import values in response to increasing tariffs. In a dataset covering 121 countries and the whole set of HS6 product categories in 2012, 2015, and 2017, we show that simplifying border procedures, that is trade facilitation, reduces tariff evasion. Holding tariff rate constant at its mean, improving a country’s overall trade facilitation performance from the 25th percentile to the median reduces tariff evasion by almost 20%. The moderating effect is especially due to improving the pre-shipment legal certainty of customs procedures. Among the potential mechanisms, improving trade facilitation performance is effective in reducing tariff evasion due to under-reporting of import prices, as well as in countries with weaker control of corruption. The results suggest that countries can gradually implement trade facilitation reforms to cost-effectively minimize tariff evasion.  相似文献

在对电商平台供应链金融模式进行总结的基础上,聚焦B2B电商平台的供应链金融业务,对9家典型B2B电商平台开展的供应链金融业务及其产品进行了描述,并从平台涉及领域、供应链金融开始时间、金融产品模式等六个方面进行了对比分析。结果表明:B2B电商平台往往是采取与金融机构合作的方式获取供应链金融资金需求;开展大宗物资交易的B2B电商平台开展供应链金融业务相对较早;与传统线下供应链金融业务相比,B2B电商平台供应链金融在信用融资和订单融资方面更有优势;B2B电商平台供应链金融产品可以根据不同平台以及买卖双方的特点进行创新设计,最后为电商供应链融资业务的发展提出建议。  相似文献

2017年,央行将普惠金融和定向降准相结合,定向降准能否精准引流决定着政策的成败。基于上市公司2011年至2019年的面板数据,采用双重差分法检验定向降准是否能够实现其政策目标,定向向三农和小微企业引导信贷资源,并用三重差分法引入资本约束这一调节变量,检验资本约束的增强是否对定向降准的实施效果有影响。结果表明:定向降准能够达到政策目标,增加三农和小微企业可获得的信贷资源,此外资本约束对定向降准的实施效果无显著影响。  相似文献
